Red and blue carsLast year saw the highest sales volume in the automotive industry since 2007, selling 15.6 million vehicles. This sales spike is largely attributed to the rebound of the housing market, and sales are expected to continue to grow this year as well. The current list of the top 20 most popular cars, split between domestic and foreign automakers, includes:

  1. Ford F-150: The F-Series has been the country’s best-selling vehicle for 32 consecutive years and running, with sales up 20 percent.
  2. Chevrolet Silverado: This truck’s redesign helped it stay a strong competitor with the country’s most popular truck.
  3. Toyota Camry: This mid-sized sedan remains the best-selling passenger car in the country.
  4. Honda Accord: A redesign of this popular sedan helped to boost sales.
  5. Dodge Ram 1500: Ram sales have significantly improved due to a redesign that includes the latest technologies and improved gas mileage.
  6. Honda Civic: Though increasing pickup sales have bumped the Civic down on the list, it still remains the country’s best-selling small car.
  7. Nissan Altima: The Altima remains one of the best-selling mid-sized sedans, which is the industry’s most competitive segment.
  8. Honda CR-V: This model remains the best-selling compact crossover utility, although it’s facing tough competition with the Ford Escape.
  9. Toyota Corolla: The sedan’s redesign has maintained interest in this consumer favorite.
  10. Ford Escape: A complete redesign, with a new, curvy body, has renewed interest in the Escape, which is now closing in on the Honda CR-V as the segment leader.
  11. Ford Fusion: This sedan is becoming increasingly popular and may even climb into the top 10 if sales trends continue.
  12. Chevrolet Cruze: The demand for this model has grown so much that GM added a third shift of workers at their Ohio factory to build more cars.
  13. Chevrolet Equinox: This compact crossover is a strong competitor in the fastest-growing industry segment.
  14. Hyundai Elantra: This Korean-made car is a reliable, best-selling car from a growing automaker.
  15. Toyota Prius: The country’s best-selling mainstream hybrid remains strong.
  16. Toyota RAV4: Though sales have improved for this compact SUV, it remains behind the Honda CR-V and the Ford Escape.
  17. Ford Focus: This car remains popular, despite competition within the Ford brand from the Fiesta and Fusion.
  18. Hyundai Sonata: This mid-size sedan maintains popularity, with its sleek body and improved technology.
  19. Chevrolet Malibu: This mid-sized passenger car has been redesigned, including more room in the rear, to make it a stronger competitor.
  20. GMC Sierra: This professional grade pickup was redesigned, which resulted in increased sales.
